E-tivity 3

By now, if you were in class, you should have your aggregator up and running. The next step is to build up resources on your aggregator. Your feed aggregator can be a very useful resource and help you learn to use the Web in a more time-effective and efficient way.

Purpose: To start using your feed aggregator, to start building up resources on your aggregator and to reflect on what you're doing.

Task: Using the bloglines account you created in class:

1- subscribe to all of the personal blogs in your group (if you haven't already done so);

2 - search for other useful sites that have feeds, e.g. online newspapers in English, and subscribe to them;

3 - create playlists for your group (if you haven't already done so) and for your other resources, e.g. online newspapers, blogs, etc..

4 - write a post on your personal blog giving your impressions of your new experience with feeds and feed aggregators.

Respond: Go to each other’s blogs (using bloglines!) and read your peers’ reactions. Comment on the blogs of the peers in your group. Read carefully: this time I would like you to provide linguistic feedback as well.

Timeline: Sunday, March 22 (task), Wednesday, March 25 (respond).

As alwyas, if you've got questions or doubts, don't hesitate to write a comment to this post with it!

N.B. When working on any computer that is not your personal computer, always remember to LOG OUT BEFORE YOU CLOSE BLOGLINES.

Hello,
I am online and I am doing the e-tivity by myself from the office. I am sorry, I thought that the strike would cancel today's lessons as it did yesterday, so I arranged to be here and work! Actually, these are my last working days here, so in the future I will be able to attend regularly, ok?
i have changed my blog url, and posted the new one last week, but I cannot see my name in the blogroll, here it is the new url again, maybe you would add it:

http://onepennygirl.blogspot.com

the name of the blog is "The one penny girl", and I have already work on it a bit.

Ok, so I hope everything's fine and you would understand this situation....I am leaving my work, so the situation is not at its best.....but the good news is I will attend more!
you can contact me, I am online,
Thanks!
Sarah

Hello Sarah,

Thanks for the message. I've added your name to the blogroll on the right. If you have any problems with feeds, let me know here and I'll give advice.

Buon lavoro,

Sarah

Dear Sarah,
sorry for my absence this morning...Fortunately I managed to create my account on Bloglines, Feeds and Playlists. Just one thing: do I have to both subscribe Post Atom and copy/paste the url on my feeds page in Bloglines, when I want to subscribe to a blog/websites?

Thank You

Bye
Giorgia

@Sarah - Putting the feeds into your blog wasn't part of the task, but if you want to...Go to the edit page of the layout of your blog. Click on "Add a gadget" . When this window appears, type in the word "Bloglines" in the search window. It will show you different options, e.g. you can see how many feeds you haven't read yet, or actually see a preview of your feeds - it's your choice. Just remember, if you choose the one where all your feeds can be seen, then everyone will see your feeds since your blog is public. Your bloglines account, on the other hand, can only be seen by you.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you've got any more questions.

@Giorgia, I'm not sure I understand your question. Anyway, if you've already subscribed to a feed (pasting the url or by clicking on a Bloglines button in a web page) and you try to do it again, Bloglines will tell you you've already subscribed. Basically, it won't let you subscribe twice to the same page.

Let me know if I haven't answered your question.

Dear Sarah,
I think I didn't explain myself well. However, I pasted the URLs on my Feed page in Bloglines. Then I create some Playlists. And then I realized that I can keep track of my feeds through my Explorer toolbar: on the left side of my Explorer page there's a window called 'Preferiti' and there I found the feeds to which I subscribed. I think I did it by clicking on 'Iscriviti a Post Atom' on my peers' blog. I hope I did nothing wrong! :)
BTW, just another thing, we have to use/manage our feeds only using Bloglines, right?

Thanks a lot!

Bye

@Giorgia, Sounds like you did everything you were supposed to. You are more than welcome to use Bloglines plus any other tool you want to use. The reason I don't use the 'Preferiti' is that they are saved on your pc and not on the Net whereas with Bloglines, you can access your feeds from any computer, anytime, anywhere. I use Bloglines for this reason, i.e. I don't always have my laptop or access to the Internet with it so with Bloglines I can use anyone else's computer and still keep up with what's going on with my feeds - and you all ;-)

Dear Sarah,
I'm Francesca Maniero. Sorry for being absent last week, but I was down with flu. Since the blog I created in class didn't work, I created a new one and the new url is http://englishunderconstruction.com,
the name of the blog is: Italian-English Heart.
Could you please replace the old one with the new url in the blogroll?
I'm also trying to do the e-tivity by myself, but I can't really understand what I have to do..
Thank you
Francesca

Ups.. it's me again..
the exact url of my blog is http://englishunderconstruction.blogspot.com
Thank you
Francesca maniero

@Francesca, I've updated the blogroll with the right url. As far as this e-tivity is concerned, you have to sign up for an account on Bloglines (see post on last Thursday in class), subscribe to the feeds of the blogs of the members of your group and make a playlist. If the videos don't help and you can't find somebody to help, we'll see what we can do on Wednesday.

I was not able to create a clickable word on my blog...I just inserted the url of the website I would like people to visit. Could you please help me?
Thanks,
Francesca
