GROUP K: Laura (e-tivity 2)

Hi everyone!

By searching the Internet for blogs I found:

first of all that of GREENPEACE. This choice is due to my lively interest in the protection of the natural environment and the world’s climatic conditions that are getting worse and worse. Especially at this point in time, the media speak about this problem just because of the conferment of the Nobel Peace Prize to an environmental activist like Al Gore. I think his social and ecological commitment is extraordinary and admirable. The documentary he did is really useful to understand what the difficulties are of our world nowadays. This blog is very well done: it’s structure is clear, there are many interesting links integrated into the text and the use of colour (obviously green!) catches the reader’s eye. Moreover, it’s enriched with videos and pictures to better illustrate the main topics.

The second blog I chose is about CULTURE. As I told you last week in my presentation I like reading and being informed, so the reason why I chose this kind of blog is quite obvious.

Among all the blogs I came up with, searching for a tag like “literature”, this seems to be the most interesting. Actually, it focuses not only on books or literary authors but also on a great range of topics: technology, science, media, movies, politics, music, sport, history...whatever you are looking for! It is clearly structured and consists of several stimulating articles and critical comments made by readers; it offers many interesting links and like the previous blog I chose it uses colours (blue and red) to catch reader’s attention.

As regards the language used in blogs, I observed that the largest part of them use an informal language (but not slang or colloquialisms) in order to address any kind of public. Of course in some cases, if the subjects of discussion are specific (for example like the global warming) the language becomes more technical and difficult.

That is all for now, let me know what you think about it!

See you,
bye Laura

Hi Laura,
are you a Greenpeace-activist yourself, or are you just interested in their work?? I was wondering if you're signed up in some of their projects..Sometimes, they are in the streets looking for new members and trying so hard to convince people. I think they really do a great job and I admire their courage and devotion! It is really shocking to see the pictures of the rainforest or better, where the rainforest is supposed to be! Have you heard about the new cars (Toyota, I think) that run with natural oil (I think it was natural oil...but I'm not sure). It's a pity they're so expensive. I hope they will be cheaper any time soon so that everyone can buy an ecological car. If I needed a car and had some money, I would buy the Toyota, even if it's not so beautiful as other cars... So as you can see,I'm concerned with that topic, too.
I could not open your second blog due to my Internet Explorer which is never working the way I want it to work...I'm sorry...
You did a great job!!

Hey!
you are making my life difficult!! When I opened the culture blog, I almost fainted(luckily I was sitting down)..I saw all these blogs..hundreds? thousands? that I would love to search through
..so I guess some extra days online for me now.
I've just looked through the language part and there are many links for learning languages podcasts, very useful I think.

I really liked the style of the Greenpease blog..simple, easy to get oriented, nice and of course very interesting posts up there!
Great job choosing!

Hey Laura,
I totally agree with Nina, you really gave us Pandora's box here! I'd never heard about this Open Culture thing, but now I'm gonna have to bookmark it and come back day after day clicking a new link trying to check out as much as possible. There's just so many of them, you know!

The Greenpeace blog was cool too, simple but full of stuff, easy to browse considering how many themes it covers. Come to think of it, have you seen Al Gore's movie about global warming and the apocalypse coming soon due to pollution and stuff? I wanted to go this summer but in the end I forgot to, so... Well, I was just wondering if I'll ever accumulate enough joy and positive thinking to be ready to go see this movie without risking a serious depressive attack afterwards (hopefully not during the film, that would be bad manners...). And then, oh my, I'll have to muster some more to be able to see Michael Moore' Sicko...!
It's such a sick sad world, isn't it?..
